New UK online guide to 'Ethics in Banking and Finance' launched

Publish date: 08 March 2019

Category: Ethics

UK Finance has launched a new online guide to 'Ethics in Banking and Finance', providing financial services firms and their senior teams with a reference resource relating to workplace culture, conduct and ethics.

UK Finance says the guide, created in partnership with law firm Linklaters, will help firms navigate various aspects of company law, governance, regulation and market-based guidance informed by ethical principles.

UK Finance is the UK trade body representing the banking and finance industry and typically provides firms and individuals operating in the sector with key reference points for governance, strategy and decision-making, all informed by ethical principles.

Julia Dixon, Financial Regulation Partner at Linklaters, comments: 'Operating according to ethical values, and being able to demonstrate how governance, strategy and decision making has been informed by ethical principles, is an issue which is squarely in the spotlight. Firms do not operate in a vacuum and their licence to operate depends on customers and stakeholders (including, importantly, regulators) being satisfied with their business approach. Building trust through an ethical framework and responsible business outlook is critical to sustainable success as well as to avoiding costly crises.'

The guide is available to download here.

Working Smart

By Lee Rossini

Identifying and focussing on certain niche markets offers opportunities for financial advisers willing to delve deeper into specialised segments. But what are niche markets, and what role can they play in a financial advice business? At its core, a niche market refers to a subset of a larger market with its own distinct needs, preferences, and demands. These markets are often characterised by their specificity, catering to a particular demographic, industry, or interest group. While mainstream markets target broader audiences, niche markets focus on serving a more specialised clientele.
